Museum of Stone , Kermanshah - IRAN

Initial design of Kermanshah museum was made at 1979 in 5000 sqmts. Construction was stopped mid way in the year 1999 due to revolution and immediate war post revolution. In the year 2001 design proposal to complete and expand the museum area to 6000 sqmts was approved with this condition that minimum demolishing will be done on the existing structure.
Main concept of new design was to locate a permanent hall in center of the building, in a transparent skin and covered with a cylindrical roof to be visible from other parts of the museum and have sufficient controlled natural light.
The transparent skin which is holding the valuable heritage stones is a reflection of Iran Mountains which are standing tall all around Kermanshah city.
These mountains are stone masses which have valuable transparent stones and in museum, a transparent mountain is designed to keep the valuable stones in it.
